Popular Areas of Hainan

First, there’s Sanya — the crown jewel of the island. Known for its soft beaches, luxury resorts, and exclusive nightlife, Sanya is where many visitors start and stay. With spots like Yalong Bay and Haitang Bay, it’s built for sunbathing, snorkeling, and sipping cocktails by the sea.

Then there’s Haikou, the island’s capital. While it’s more urban, it has a charming old town, volcanic parks, and local food markets worth exploring. Plus, it’s a great base if you’re planning to travel around the northern half of the island.

Things to do in Hainan

Adventure seekers often head inland, where rainforest hikes, hidden waterfalls, and volcanic craters offer more than just beach scenery. Wuzhishan Mountain is a favourite for trekking, and the Yanoda Rainforest gives a true taste of the island’s wild interior.

Meanwhile, water lovers flock to the coasts for jet skiing, diving, and paddleboarding. Surfing is growing in popularity — especially at Riyue Bay, which attracts both beginners and professionals. And for something slower-paced, the island’s hot springs and traditional tea houses offer a more relaxed vibe.
